'Captivity' Controversy Explodes To New Level: MPAA Slaps Sanctions On, Ratings Process Suspended Okay, here's the backstory -- Lionsgate partner After Dark Films has been generating some serious 'word of mouth' advertising for its upcoming film Captivity over the past couple of months by putting up controversial billboards and taxi tops in L.A. and New York, even after they were rejected by the MPAA. The offending ads featured star Elisha Cuthbert being tortured in four-frame storyboards, and each frame had one of the following captions: "abduction," "confinement," "torture," and "termination." Lionsgate was no doubt smiling as people everywhere expressed outrage and sites like ours wrote the word Captivity over and over and over again. Well, now the empire has struck back -- the MPAA has suspended Captivity's ratings process and slapped After Dark Films with a sanction -- something Variety is calling "unprecedented." ...read more

| 15 Mar 2007 | | New Poster For Elisha Cuthbert's 'Captivity' Up | | 0 Comments |

[Links open in a new window] Posted Mar 15th 2007 10:32AM by Jessica Barnes Either someone at After Dark Pictures can't make up their mind, or the marketing machine is in full throttle for the Elisha Cuthbert ( 24) film Captivity. Bloody-Disgusting has a look at the third poster for the horror flick, along with a detailed set visit and some behind the scenes photos of blood stained baby dolls and mattresses -- don't ask. Roland Joffe directs the horror about two people that are abducted and tortured by the usual "madman with ulterior motives". Bloody-Disgusting also reported that Courtney Solomon ( American Haunting) had joined the production and that a new ending and four more "torture scenes" had been added, including what they describe as "a brain bashing scene". The film is shooting the added material in California with sets based on the original Russian locations. Even though the last poster wasn't exactly being targeted at my demographic -- consisting of Cuthbert in a tank-top pressed against glass, I think it was a much creepier image than what they have come up with for the new one-sheet -- which unfortunately kind of looks like an ad for no-run mascara. So I would not count on this being the final poster for the film, if they have not even finished shooting, who knows how many more ideas they might come up with. Source: Cinematical

Actress currently filming remake of Korean flick 'My Sassy Girl.' By Zain Meghji Elisha Cuthbert was called a lot of things during her time as the oft-imperiled Kim Bauer on "24," but the star of recent flicks such as "The Girl Next Door" and "House of Wax" wants to add another adjective to the list: sassy. The actress is currently shooting "My Sassy Girl," a remake of the smash Korean flick of the same name (see "Elisha Cuthbert Gets Her Sassy On In Unusual Romantic Comedy"). Cuthbert recently talked with MTV Canada about what makes her sassy, choosy and, well, 54th on anyone's list. MTV: For those unfamiliar with the Korean film, what's "My Sassy Girl" about? Elisha Cuthbert: It's a funny and beautiful romantic comedy bout two people finding each other and being almost polar opposites, but somehow falling in love despite all of that. There are so many elements to it. There's comedy, there's serious moments, emotional moments and also really enchanting moments where we go into this crazy world of fantasy and make believe and kind of bring it all together. It's really great. MTV: So what does it take to become a sassy girl? ...read more

Finally, The Quiet was released on DVD today in the UK. I'll be sure to make screencaps when I get my copy (hopefully soon!)
"This erotic and suspenseful tale of sex, lies and betrayal stars Elisha Cuthbert (24) as Nina Deer, a pretty cheerleader whose life is turned upside-down by the arrival of her parents' godchild Dot (Camilla Belle, When a Stranger Calls), a deaf and mute girl recently orphaned by her father's death.
Although Nina looks upon Dot's deafness with disdain, her family and friends develop a strange attraction to her, and Dot soon becomes a sounding board for everyone's heaviest burdens. But when Nina becomes convinced that Dot is hiding a few secrets of her own, she decides to confess a family secret so disturbing it cannot be ignored."
